Description

Mahogany slant-top desk. The desk has an open shelf at the top, with wavy-cut sides. The desk-top is blind mortise jointed with a piece of trim nailed to the front. The sides of the desk are dovetail jointed with the face. At the center of the face is a keyhole; behind this, on the inside of the desk, is a brass lock mechanism. Below the desk are two drawers, side-by-side with two drawer pulls each, and a brass keyhole at the top center. The locking mechanism of the left drawer is brass, but the right drawer has a locking mechanism of steel or iron. The drawers are the same depth of the desk. The desk is supported by lathe-turned mahogany legs and stretchers, which are block-like at the joints. The exterior of the desk is varnished.
