Tall chest with hinged lid, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Tall rectangular chest with hinged lid. Top of lid overhangs front and sides by 1/2". Lid flush with body of chest and dovetail joints from bottom to top are evenly spaced. Lid and body joint is nearly seamless. Lid sits atop sides of chest, firmly held in place by small pieces of wood screwed on inside, which form lip. At center of face, just below lid is a key hole. Lock mechanism, a brass plate on body and a steel plate on lid, each with two small rectangular cut outs are set into inside edge. Three brass and steel hinges along back of chest. Exterior varnished.
