Stanchion
Description
Commercially produced stanchion consisting of two maple stiles and various metal fittings, both stamped and cast. The stanchion is suspended via a length of chain at both the top and bottom. The position of one stile is adjustable along a series of twelve holes for bolt and fasteners (two at top and two at bottom). The other stile pivots on a nut and bolt at bottom but may be moved outward to open inward to close via a spring-loaded, cast metal lever which is notched to fit over one of the fasteners for the top of the other stile. This allows the stanchion to be locked in the closed position when the cows head and neck are between the two stiles.
