Description

Pasteboard box with lid, hinged, covered in natural colored linen and lined with red silk. Top embellished with two red silk bows and embroidered "Emoretta" in red script. Two red bows embellish front; each end has two holes where two more bows may have been. When acquired, the box contained box of chalk (1959.11207.1), and box of Singer sewing machine needles (1959.11206.2).

Notes

The donor indicated that she believed the box to have been made by Sister Elizabeth Belden; a hymnal covered with linen and inscribed with embroidered text by Sister Elizabeth is in the collection of Hancock Shaker Village.
