Iron, Soldering
Soldering iron, Canterbury, NH
Description
Soldering iron with a long, thin copper wedge-shaped head tapering to a chisel-like tip. A rectangular tenon is inserted through a rectangular eye in a square wrought iron shaft (the eye is forged at a right angle to the shaft so that the head is in line with the shaft but offset). A long, tapered square tang is forged into the other end of the shaft which is inserted through the center, lengthwise; of a turned maple handle. The handle is secured by clinching the shaft end over the handle end. Apparently, in use, the handle has slipped about 3/8" toward the copper head and a wire box nail has been driven into the handle next to the tang to tighten the assembly.
