Description

White porcelain sugar bowl with cobalt transfer-printed designs. The bowl (a) has a bulbous shape with handles attached just above its widest diameter. The handles are attached to the bowl with stylized acanthus leaves outlined in cobalt. The handles are tripartite: a scroll on each end with a ridged disk at the center. The same sides as the handles have a seam in the porcelain. On either face of the bowl is a floral arrangement with an oval border with an alternating design. This border is repeated on the exterior and interior of the lip. Below the exterior border are three hanging baskets and one bouquet tied at the bottom with a ribbon. Inside the lip is a small rest for the lid (b). The lid's bottom edge has an alternating border, from which two hanging baskets hang with extending branches. There are also three bouquets tied with a ribbon at the end. One bouquet is by itself and the other two are next to each other. At the top of the lid is a pull, the base of which is encircled by a cobalt line. The pull is shaped like a spinning top with each ridge colored in cobalt as is the apex of the top.
