A wood block cut in the shape of a shoe. The last has a square toe. 2 13/16" in from the toe. Just before the joint until the top, the last is cut creating a wedge. The wedge is secured to the last by a string looped around the last and through a hole in the wedge at the instep. The top of the last is concave and slightly shorter in the back. The heel curve is straight and extends 2 7/8" to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist. The outward facing side of the waist has a half-moon shaped piece of leather attached with metal nails. The sides of the waist grow wide until the joint at which point it tapers toward the toe.
