Stoner, Cherry
Cherry pitter, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
ca. 1867
Description
Cast iron cherry stoner with clamp. The pitting mechanism consists of two curved iron arms with four spikes at each end, and a fifth spike pointing in the opposite direction. The arms are hinged to the body of the stoner and controlled by a turned wooden knob. The arms hold the cherry in the attached tray, which has two grooves with a hole at the end of each to allow for the spikes to pierce the cherry forcing out the pit. The sides of the tray fan out from the base. Attached to the bottom of the tray is a cast c-clamp and thumbscrew.
