Although the photographer of this view is not identified, the card was published by "M. A. Walker, Shaker Village, Alfred, Me." Eldress Mary Ann Walker, along with Eldress Harriett Coolbroth, had largely been responsible for a number of young women becoming Shakers at Alfred and by doing so were able to sustain the community at Alfred until it closed in 1931 and these young sister added a great amount to the vitality of the Sabbathday Lake community when they moved there after 1931.
