Furnishing basket with hexagonal, open weave base, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Miniature round "furnishing" basket of black ash splint. Base is open weave in hexagonal pattern. Walls are tightly woven with the same sized weavers and uprights. Remnants of the white leather trim around the rim.
Notes
Made in the Mount Lebanon Church Family shop to "furnish" a sewing work stand, which would be fitted with very small baskets to hold needles and other sewing goods. A mold in the museum’s collection, 1950.2570.1, is a match for this piece.
