This photograph is identified in each of West's series of views titled, "Views of North Family Shakers at Mt. Lebanon, New York," as image number 17, "In the Path." The back of this photograph has an additional piece of paper pasted to it that has the following information: "TITLE:- 59 In a Shaker Dooryard, Mt. Lebanon, N. Y. Quantity:- 1,000 | Style:- Leipzigerchrom | Imprint- Pub. by Gillet Post Card Co., Lebanon Springs, N. Y. Coloring:- Houses white with green blinds. Woman's dress, light brown. Walks, gray. Lawn, green." Apparently, Howard Gillet used West's photograph, with or without his permission, to produce a series of colored versions of this image for his postcard company.
