Elder Daniel Offord Addressing the Salvation Army
Description
Members of the Salvation Army, seated on the lawn of the drying yard west of the North Family's Wash House are being addressed by Elder Daniel Offord. The Salvation Army, often in residence in Lebanon Springs during the summers, after they purchased the old Methodist Camp Meeting grounds in Lebanon Springs, occasionally visited the Shakers at Mount Lebanon. From the drums, tambourines, and cornets, it appears that the Salvation Army had also been entertaining the Shakers. The back of this cabinet card has a list of 29 images that were part of James E. West's "Views of North Family Shakers at Mt. Lebanon, New York," but this particular image is not described on the back of this card. The title, "Elder Daniel addressing Salvation Army," appears as view number 45 on West's series of 47 views. West probably just used up some old cards when he mounted this image.
