Description

Large white pine box with lid secured with three strap hinges. The chest is butt joined and nailed. The ends and bottom are reinforced by two iron bands nailed around each end and under the bottom and up the front and back, all secured by nails. Two forged hasps are secured to the lid with forged staples which are driven through the lid and clinched inside. These hasps fit over two more clinched staples on the front making the chest lockable. Each end has two holes drilled through, for handles, which are now lost.
