Description
Well-made wire reel with cutter. Between-centers turned reel of elm with oak "spokes" supported in a dovetailed frame of birch and a t-shaped catalpa (?) base joined with a dovetail half-lap. Birch cutter support mortised through base with a steel hook-shaped cutter sandwiched into top. Reel wound with copper wire. Equipped with a steel ratchet and an iron pawl to keep reel from unwinding under tension. Ratchet has birch crank with turned maple knob for turning. Between-centers turned wire pulley/guide of birch.

Used to wind wire around head of broom to hold it onto handle.
