Interactive, Shaker-inspired ‘Cradled’ exhibit about calm and care

“Have a seat,” said Jerry Grant, director of library and collections for the Shaker Museum.

And so, the exhibition tour of “Cradled” began in a long stretch of quiet, tucked into Shaker rocking chairs flanking a basket of yarn and knitting needles that the restless hands of strangers past have used to weave seemingly endless scarves. Across the cozy second floor exhibit at Kinderhook Knitting Mill hung an artists’ statement by co-curators Suzanne Bocanegra, an internationally renowned conceptual artist, and Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand.
