Firewood box with lid, painted blue, Alfred, ME
Description
Firewood box of white pine. Four pieces of white pine are dovetailed to form a box. Four white pine posts/feet are secured to the inside of each box corner, rabetted to fit over the box sides at the feet and the 1 1/2" square post is chamfered to a tapered octagon to form feet. Inside the box, the posts are rounded over. A white pine bottom with corner cutouts is nailed to the bottom edges of the box. The box has a lid hinged with contemporary steel butt hinges which replaced the original hinges. The lid has a chamfered molding applied to each end which slightly overlaps the top end edges of the box. All visible surfaces are painted blue.
