Description

Cast steel chisel-like cutter for seed packages. Flat blade offset in center. Integral handle, tapered upwards, with domed top.

Notes

Used to cut paper sheets for seed packets or "papers." This chisel, or one like it, may have been referred to by Br. Elisha D. Blakeman in a June 6, 1863 journal entry: "File a saw for J. P. Vail in charge of work, he having made me a corner chisel for trimming bags. It works well. Made of cast steel."
