Photographic portrait of Phoebe and Catherine Van Houten, twin sisters, both biological and as Shakers. Photo is under glass and supported by a fabric covered stretcher which is set into an ornate frame having an inner frame of gilded embossed gesso over pine, then a natural oak frame highly molded with an inset, half-round, covered with embossed gesso to look like carved oak or acanthus leaves painted on stained a walnut color.
