Ironing table with drop leaf and sleeve board, Enfield, NH
Description
Ironing table (a) stained a deep red. Table top, aprons, rails, etc. of pine. Single drawer whose depth equals the inside width of the table, a single pine drop leaf with slide-out supports, four between-centers turned ash legs with pine cleats nailed to the turned section which supports a pine shelf (b). The drawer of pine has sides rebated and nailed to front. Back butted to back ends of the sides and nailed. Bottom inserted into dadoes in the sides and front and nailed to the underside of the back. Two pine cleats inside the drawer support box (c) of nailed construction which slides on the cleats. Drawer has cast iron Victorian-style bin pull in front center. Drop leaf butted to table top and hinged with iron or steel drop leaf hinges. Two rectangular through mortises at drawer end of top which fit into the tenons at the bottoms of two cherry uprights which house two ash rails. This device (d) supported a sleeve ironing board. Two pine blocks, one (e) trapezoid shaped and the other (f) rectangular, with the table.
