Basket

Description

Rectangular basket of black ash splint. Uprights 5/8"-1 1/8" w and weavers 1/4" w. Split rim, oval shaped, single lashing. Double-grip "ear" handles, curved double-notched that come down on outside. Two areas of rim have natural colored twine tied around it. Uprights continue downwards to create base.

The Shaker community of origin or manufacture for this piece is not known, but it bears several characteristics of work baskets made at Canterbury, NH.
