Description

Rift-sawn birch veneer oval box band with its faces planed, three cut swallow tails, and drilled tack holes. Both swallow tail and overlap ends are tapered.

Notes

Likely from Mount Lebanon, NY. The piece would have been steam-bent around a form to obtain an elliptical shape, swallow-tails wound have been secured, and followers inserted while it dried to make an oval box (sans header).
