Plane, Edge
Edge iron, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Combination edge iron and plane. Unlike the standard edge iron the combination iron and plane is not solid cross-section and has only three complete sides. The iron has a screw on one side that links the two sides of the iron together, most likely to reinforce and strengthen the tools sides. There is another screw hole on the side with none opposite. This side also has a small fence-shaped piece that can be removed from the tool; its function is unclear. On the top of the iron there is yet another screw hole, likely to allow for the attachment of the plane and iron piece. The plane is set into a turned wooden handle.
