Rule, Tailor's
Tailor's rule, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
1828
Description
Dark wood ruler with straight top edge and a slightly curved bottom edge. Numbered 1-37 twice on both sides, so numbers can be read from left to right or right to left. Tick marks are every 1" on set a and every 1/4" on set b. Metal edges on both ends, 3/8" wide.
Notes
This ruler was used for cloak-making. The curved edge was useful to tailoring, which requires a uniform curve to measure and cut fabric for clothing.
