Knife, Feathering
Feathering knife, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Feathering knife for shoemaking. Tapering cylindrical handle which has been cut down to incorporate a brass ferrule. The ferrule is reinforcing the joint where the feathering knife blade meets the handle. The knife blade is small and rounded where it meets the handle but grows in size exponentially to form the blade. The blade is essentially rectangular in shape, with a portion cut out at the end to create a 3/16" long safe, to protect the user. The edge where the safe extends outward from the blade is slightly curved.
