Description

Oval-shaped piece of 1/4" thick wood (possibly white pine) covered on top with white paper, on the bottom by a reversed broadside, and around its circumference with red paper with a printed design in gold. A box wall was originally attached to this edge with copper gimp tacks but the wall is no longer extant and all that remains is seven gimp tacks. Four small legs were attached to the underside of which three are still extant; these are between-centers turned of maple and appear devoid of finish.

Notes

This base was apparently salvaged from a completed work box for possible reuse. Underside of the bottom has a portion of a broadside for "Imperial Rose Balm" glued to it in reverse. This is the same broadside that was used to line 1950.541.1a,b, a cardboard chest with lid.
