Description

Shovel carved from a red oak slab. Blade/scoop is bound on all sides with an iron reinforcing fixture. Both the front and back of the top of the scoop have iron reinforcements. Cylindrical handle shaft is capped by a D-handle reinforced with an iron pin. No discernible finish.

Notes

According to the Canterbury Shakers, from whom this shovel was acquired, it was used to shovel sawdust.
