Machine, Broom
Broom vise, Church Family, Mount Lebanon
Description
Heavy ash uprights with fitted cast iron jaws form the vise. One of the uprights is connected to a maple handle/lever assembly with iron straps so that when the handle is depressed, the upright is pulled toward the other, closing the jaws over a broom.
Notes
The vise was used to hold brooms while stitching the corn stems for the broom head in a fan shape.
