Steel 2 7/16" socket gouge with new hickory handle. Handle is very short (1 1/4" diameter by 1 7/16" projecting from socket). Very similar to roughing-out gouges used today in wood-turning but very large, gouge is socketed rather than tanged, and handle is completely wrong.
