Description

Fan is made with 18 "ribs". Ribs are sanded wood painted with black lacquer. Bottom of rib 4" up is plain lacquered; above that are three pleated silk ribbons that extend length of fan, with alternating shades of black and cream (1/4" wide) culminating in bow on proper left side. Above that, ribs are covered with black silk for 8 1/4", and there is a hand-painted floral design of violets and forget-me-nots. Attached to the bottom is a hinged horseshoe-shaped metal piece about 1" that has a black grosgrain ribbon border in black velvet 1" wide and 9" long.
