Description

Cutting gauge of beech. Stem mortised into a jack handle. Fence locked with a thumbscrew in a tapped mortise but a side mortise indicates that the fence was originally secured with a wedge. A further mortise through the stem just inside the handle held a cutting blade and wedge which are no longer extant.
