Description

Round bottom copper kettle (a) and slightly domed lid (b). Kettle made up of two pieces of copper; circular top joined by soldered dovetails and domed bottom joined to top with more soldered dovetails. Top rim is rolled over heavy round iron bar stock and iron handles are riveted to outside kettle with large copper rivets. Lid is hammered from a copper disk and rim is crimped. A handle is riveted on to center of lid. On one side a hole was cut through lid and a section of copper pipe secured to a flange extends through lid. Flange is riveted to inside of lid. Interior appears to have been tinned originally. Used to make applesauce.
