Round box painted dark green, Sabbathday Lake, ME
Description
Steam-bent beech round box (a) and lid (b) rims. Rims joined to form cylinders by feathered overlaps secured by vertical rows of copper tacks. Pine headers held in place with wooden shoe pegs. The box was painted bright green on the top and sides. It was later over-painted with dark green, with the lid in place. Thus, the bright green shows when the lid is removed. There is some sort of crystalline deposit on the inside of the bottom, and a little on the side close to the bottom.
