Description

Woven rug using plied wool and cotton yarns. Fine sett. Weft faced 16 epi - 20 epi. Bound on all four sides with hand-woven wool tape. Yarns are carried up right side (visible where binding is worn) - this technique is typical of Canterbury. Strips of plied "S" twists using tan and brown wool thread, four shots, then a strip of solid color tan, six shots, repeat until end. Hand-woven tape, striped, plied brown and beige, blue stripe, dark brown stripe, repeat. Both ends of rug start with plain weave, plain color, then alternating brown/beige until the pattern starts. Irregular, not the same on both ends.
