Side chair painted red with gray splint seat, South Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Side chair of maple (at least where wood is visible through multiple paint layers) with a hickory splint seat. Transitional pommels; top slot (of three) pinned in mortise with a wooden peg; stretcher tenons unpinned in their mortises. Joinery is very tight. Painted red over an earlier gray paint. Splint seat has been left with the original gray paint on its top.
