Measure, Dry
Measure of cherry and pine, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Steam-bent cherry band with feathered and overlapped ends held by copper tacks, and pine header held by copper shoe pegs. The band appears to have broken off at the top, so that much of the surface of the rim is uneven, but this occurred prior to the application of the finish, which is a dark stain.
Notes
The band appears to have broken during the process of bending, and areas of the rim are clearly uneven, but the rim at the area of the the band overlap is very smooth, suggesting that the measure was finished as was rather than being discarded. A chip from the header was lost and replaced with a piece of cherry glued in, also demonstrating adaptive reuse.
