Description

Woven poplar basket with hexagon base to circular rim. Open weave design.

Notes

Gift of Sister Mary Dahm, then at Hancock; she reportedly told museum curator Phelps Clawson that this was the first basket of this type she made, and as "it was not quite perfect, she asked me not to show it."It likely originally had a lid, but there is no longer one present. Sister Mary also donated samples of poplar splint and a form used to make this basket.
