Description

Woven palm leaf bonnet trimmed at the brim and at the back crown seam with finer woven tapes: 1" wide in the front and 1/2" wide in the back. Bonnet crown covered with a black open-work netting. Pleated, maroon silk flounce attached to the bonnet for 12", and is 5 3/8" long at the longest point. Bonnet sides lined with the same material as the flounce. Iridescent silk woven with contrasting colors, red and black, to make maroon. Cream-colored netting on the crown. Ribbon ties attached on the underside of the front edge of flounce, 20 1/4" x 1 5/8".

Notes

Original acquisition information indicates that the bonnet "very probably" belonged to Sister Emma J. Neale. Box #1968.16551.1 was made for the bonnet.
