Description
Two white pine boards butted and edge glued to form blade, bottom edge reinforced by clinch nailing heavy sheet metal strips to front and back at edge. Sides reinforced by Kerfing edge and inserting a 3/8" wide strip of sheet metal into the kerf on each side. A between-centers turned birch handle shaft slightly tapered toward bottom was flattened on one side, steam-bent to a gentle arc in the plane perpendicular to the flat, and wood screwed (?) and riveted to the shovel blade forcing it to take on a slight curve. At the top of the handle shaft a cast iron "D" handle fitting over the shaft end and has a between-centers turned grip riveted in place in the opening created by the casting. Painted red.
