Black ash splint basket inscribed "MED.", Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Circular base, curved sides, circular rim. Black ash splint, chestnut-colored. Uprights about 1" wide, weavers 1/4" wide. Split rim with double lashing. Double grip "ear" handles, double-notched, that come down on outside. Uprights continue downward to form base and narrow as they reach the center. Weavers are in a circular pattern. Raised base with split upright in the center. Initials "M.E.D." on one side.
Notes
The letters "MED" are believed to indicate that the basket was used in the Medicine Department.
