Spit box painted yellow, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Round, unlidded box with pine bottom and steam-bent side-band and rim strengthener. Side band and rim are ring-porous hardwood (ash, chestnut?). Both the side and rim are joined with feathered overlaps and secured by double vertical rows of copper tacks. The rim is fastened to the side with copper tacks as well. The bottom is held by copper shoe pegs. Box is painted yellow inside and out.
