Oval carrier with lid, painted green, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Steam-bent maple carrier (a) and lid (b) bands with swallow tails (two on carrier, one on lid) secured with copper tacks. Lid and bottom headers of some soft hardwood (basswood) held by copper shoe pegs in lid, copper tacks in carrier. Carrier has been cut down since most of the bottom swallowtail has been cut off. Steam-bent hickory handle secured to outsides by a copper rivet peened over a copper burr on insides and two copper tacks on each side. Swallow tails point left. Exterior painted olive green.
