Oval box with applied decoration on the lid, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Steam-bent maple box (a) and lid (b) bands with swallowtails (pointing right, two on box, one on lid) secured by copper tacks. White pine top and bottom headers held in place by copper points (shoe pegs). Box exterior appears to have been painted or washed red and then varnished over. Centered in top is some sort of decorative transfer picturing a cluster of red cherries, a bunch of green grapes, and then two clusters of black cherries with assorted green leaves, all varnished over
