Description

Frame and panel construction. Gallery and slide-out work surface. Frame mostly of maple, few pine components. White pine panels. Drawers of rebated and nailed pine with curly butternut fronts. Door is mortise and tenoned (blind), with all joints pinned with a single pin. The door is butternut, panel is curly butternut, and has a brass spring latch and brass butt hinges. Base has slide-out work surface of pine with curly butternut facing and porcelain knobs, 13/16" in diameter, secured by blued steel wood screws and seated in brass trim plates. The corner posts of maple have turned legs below the case bottom. The base has two banks of two drawers and a single, full-width drawer below. As with the gallery, the drawers are rebated and nailed, have curly butternut fronts and face-turned maple knobs measuring 1 1/2" diameter. The gallery drawers have face-turned maple knobs measuring 1" in diameter. The work surface and top are pine. The exterior of the desk is stained red except for the drawer fronts, door, and knobs, which are stained brown. All exterior surfaces have been clear coated.
