Hammer, Crandall

Description

Crandall hammer of forged iron with a hickory handle. Head consists of 31 forged iron spike-like shafts with square tapered points on working end. The hexagonal shafts of these "spikes" taper to the other end. A forged iron ring is driven down on the bundle of 31 "spikes." Another forged iron ring that is welded to a tapered shaft/tang is inserted into the hickory handle and extends completely through length of handle. At the top, this shaft is threaded and a hexagonal bolt secures the handle to the head. Iron hoops are driven onto the top and bottom of the handle.
