Black ash splint basket inscribed "MA", North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Square base to flared oval rim. Black ash splint, tan in color, noticeable grain marks. Uprights vary slightly, but are generally 1/2" wide. Weavers are 1/4" wide. Rim is split and has a single lashing. Base is loose plain weave with splints that are generally about 7/8".
Notes
The initials "M. A." may possibly refer to Sister Martha J. Anderson, who lived at the Mount Lebanon North Family for nearly all of her life.
