Description
Screw box made of hickory and steel. The screw box is one piece, with chamfered edges. For a 1" wood screw, the steel bruzz is fixed in proper position by a wood wedge below, and an iron or steel shim at the top of the tail end. Adjustable blade.
Notes
The initial stamps on either side of the thread box indicate that this tool was used by Brothers Orren Haskins (1815-1892) and Henry DeWitt (1805-1855). DeWitt, among other occupations, was employed making spinning wheels and clock reels. The thread box matches the threading on the spinning wheel tensioning screw 1950.3615.1, suggesting that the screw was likely turned on this screw box by Brother Henry to make a spinning wheel.
