Froe
Froe, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Badly abused froe (from being struck with a metal rather than a wood mallet) with a smith-forged blade and a riven and carved hickory handle. A forged nail is driven through handle and headed on other side to prevent handle from slipping through eye. Eye formed by splitting blade blank in half and wrapping halves around a cylindrical form but it is not clear where the halves are welded.
