Description

Steam-bent beech box (a) and lid (b) rims. Three swallow-tails on the box and one on the lid, secured with iron tacks. Extra row of tacks inside the swallow-tails. Rims attached to white pine headers with cut iron nails. Rims and headers are unusually thick. The exterior is stained or washed pumpkin, and varnished or shellacked over. Shadows are visible on the box side and lid side where paper labels were once affixed. The remnant of a paper label on the end opposite the swallow-tail direction has a portion of ink script, possibly reading "...int...". This box contains 47 commercially turned pill boxes with lids (1954.6829.2 through 1954.6829.48).
