Borer, Cork
Bung borer, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
"Molasses Gate" or iron bung borer with a steel cutter riveted onto end of tapered, hollow cylinder with a hexagonal wrench grip at large end. Just beyond wrench grip, the cylinder bends up at about 45 degrees. A swivel closure with some sort of gasket (rubber?) is an integral part of this device which allows the aperture to be securely closed. Cutter has screw lead and a knicker spur on outside edge. Above rectangular holes into inside of tapered cylinder, there is a threaded section on outside of taper. Whatever screwed onto this is no longer with object.
