Description

Steam-bent maple box (a) and lid (b) rims. Three swallow-tails on the box and one on the lid, held with copper tacks. White pine headers held in place with small copper points. Painted or stained bright red.

Notes

The box originally belonged to Elizabeth Florilla Polley, born near Queechy, New York, and married in 1850. Mrs. Polley was the grandmother of the donor. The box was known as a salt box.
